Surgery for Parkinson's disease

Pakinson's Disease is a condition that affects the nervious system, in the area that coordinates activity, muscular tone, and movements.

This year we commemorate the tenth anniversary of the foundation, by the Health Deparment, of the Parkinson's Surgical Unit in Cruces University Hospital; one of the first in the State.

It is a reference center for functional surgery in the Basque Autonomous Community, and even welcomes patients derived from other autonomous communities. Since its foundation, more than 100 patients had been intervened, mainly for Parkinson's disease, but also for other movement disorders.

Moreover, the Hospital works in the ground of genetics with pharmacological trials, aside from Parkinson's surgery, and is aware of future contributions that may emerge in the research of transplants and cellular implants.
