The trasplant
The transplant of organs and tissues carried out in specialized centres is a regular medical practice which is being applied to a large number of patients who, otherwise, would die or would live in more and more precarious states of health .
Scientific breakthroughs have made it possible for the success of transplants to be a reality in a high percentage of the cases.
No donations, no transplants
The big barrier that stops transplants from being carried out isthe lack of donors.
The possibilities of obtaining organs are so extremely limited, for only 1% of people who die in health care centres are in a position to have their organs donated .
A donor is only potentially valid when death occurs in a hospital due to brain damage, a haemorrhage or injuries, i.e. when that person was healthy and full of life a few hours before.
The lack of society's awareness and the families' refusals worsen this difficulty.
Organ transplants are everyone's problem
As a natural act of human solidarity , what better way is there for doing something for others than offering life? You only have to donate your organs when you no longer need them .
Also, think of yourself. The more the donors, the more relaxed you and your family can be, as well as thousands of people like you who do not need a transplant right now, but you may need one some time in the future.
Who can be organ donor?
Everyone who shows his/her willingness for his/her organs to be used for transplants if he/she dies in adequate conditions.
Or people who donate a recently deceased relative's organs in an altruistic way.
All in all, you yourself can be a donor.
There are moments when several lives depend on a donation
That is why, if a doctor asks you to donate the organs of a deceased relative, it is because he/she belongs to the extremely scarce number of people whose organs are in optimum conditions for being transplanted.
And because there are patients whose life expectancy depends exclusively on that donation.
